Who made this — and why

ClearStep was made by someone who has sat beside elderly people their whole career, and watched them feel left behind by technology. That needed to change.

"I was on the phone with my nan for 45 minutes, trying to help her find a photo. I couldn't see her screen. She couldn't describe what she was looking at. I could hear how embarrassed she was getting. That broke my heart."

I've worked in domiciliary care for over ten years. I've sat with elderly people in their homes, helping with meals, medications, and the everyday moments that make a life. And again and again, I saw the same thing: people who had lived full, capable, remarkable lives — feeling stupid because of a smartphone.

My own grandparents were the same. Every week, a phone call. "How do I do this?" And every time, I'd try to walk them through it without being able to see their screen. The connection would get muddled. They'd feel embarrassed. I'd feel helpless.

What they needed wasn't a younger family member on the end of a phone. They needed someone who was always there, had infinite patience, and never once made them feel silly for asking.

ClearStep is my answer to that problem. Not an app full of features and menus. Just a calm, kind voice that speaks in plain English, goes one step at a time, and is available at 2am on a Tuesday if that's when you need it.

No one should feel stupid for not knowing what a "browser" is. Technology should include everyone — not just people who grew up with it. ClearStep exists to make sure no elderly person feels left behind by the digital world.

Digital health is just as important as physical health.

Helping every elderly person navigate the digital world safely — and with confidence.
